1.How do you approach the opening? I prefer gambits or lines that include a lot of traps in order to win games quickly. I prefer to play known openings with predictable outcomes. I prefer to add a little bit of twist in a known theory. I prefer openings with open lines and a lot of pawn pushes. I prefer to play solid openings that lead to a safe middlegame. I prefer openings that give closed positions or those that are quiet.

2.Let's say you are down a knight in the middlegame but have a more active position. How do you evaluate this situation? The material situation is objectively losing, however I might be able to draw with such an active position. The position is losing in material but there is compensation, it is still playable. Being down a full knight is not necessarily losing, it might actually be winning if the opponent becomes too passive. The position is losing but they might let their guard down and commit a blunder so I will play on. The position is losing, but I can at least try some interesting ideas. Great, I can play more aggressively (all-kamikaze) since there is nothing to lose.

3.What is your opinion on the excessive drawn results we see in super grandmaster games? It could definitely be better, super grandmasters today are too timid to take some risk. It is a crime against chess, if this keeps up the game will become unpopular. It's only logical, when two great chess players clash the result will likely be a draw. A draw is a great result, it means that it is a fighting game with a lot of subtle back and forth. Chess when played correctly will always end in a draw, with the existence of computers you can't blame super grandmasters for playing chess correctly. It's not like it will end the game of chess, but perhaps players need more incentives to push for a win.

4.Do you enjoy studying endgames? I don't like studying endgames, I focus more on the opening/middlegame Endgames are extremely important, you'll never be a good player without knowing the endgame. I don't study endgames, my plan is to avoid exchanges and win before the endgame. I do study some endgames, although not that much. Endgames are important but it is not everything, I study it as much as the other phases. Endgames should be the number 1 priority in studying chess, you can be good at everything else if you master the endgame.

5.What is your opinion on games played between chess engines? Watching games between engines is only enjoyable when there is an attack or a sacrifice involved. Absolute waste of time, chess engines should only be used as tools not entertainment. Watching games against engines can be good at times to get inspired into making a creative game. It is an absolute must to watch games between engines, people can learn about strategic nuances from the best. Games played between engines are not only instructive but also enjoyable, there is a hidden beauty within this genre that is often overlooked. Engine games can be good, but people can improve even without them.

6.Which time control do you like the most and why? Rapid is the best, there is a right mixture of tactics and strategy within this format. Rapid is the best format, both players can play it safe in the middlegame and still have enough time for endgames. I like playing bullet, I can try out as many funky combinations I can find. Blitz is the best, I can mess around and still win from tactics. I like blitz since I can try out some interesting ideas while still having enough time for thinking. Classical is the absolute best, both players can go all out and the stronger one will be the one on top.

7.Which phase of the game do you like the most and why? I like the middlegame, there will always be interesting lines when many pieces are left on the board. The endgame is very beautiful, the art of maneuvering pawn/pieces to gain a subtle advantage is enjoyable to the eye. Middlegame is the most enjoyable, the best moves are not obvious and beautiful combinations can be made. I like the opening out of all, there is just something about giving an extra twist to interesting ideas. Opening is the best, squeezing an advantage from a known line is the signature of a strong chess player. Endgames are the most enjoyable, mostly because those who excel in this win a lot of games.

8.Imagine you are playing in a simultaneous exhibition against Magnus Carlsen, what is your approach? I will create an opposite castling situation so that a pawn storm can be executed, to beat Carlsen I need to complicate. I will try to play crazy lines in order to shake him up, there's no way I can win against Carlsen if the game becomes positional. I will study a known line and use an engine to figure out a twist, hopefully the preparation is enough to win against Carlsen. I will trade as many pieces as possible and try to win in the endgame. Magnus might be good in the endgame but there's no way I can beat him during the opening/middlegame. I will study the endgame like crazy, Magnus is an endgame expert, I need to know my endgames in order to stand a chance against him. I will play a drawish line in order to get into a safe endgame, hopefully this is enough to make a draw.

9. Let's say you are down a whole bishop (without an active position), how would you play the rest of the game? I will look for complications, anything that gives my opponent an opportunity to blunder. I will play something crazy, if I lose this game at least I get to try some interesting ideas. I will look for further sacrifices, since I am down in material there is no reason to play it safe. I will cramp his position and hope that I can get to a drawn or winning endgame. There are endgames that can be saved even if you are down in material. I will try to play defensively and look for drawing chances, a threefold repetition can save me the game. If this is blitz/bullet I will play on, but if this is a rapid/classical game I don't think there's any reason to play further.

10.Which kind of world chess championship match is the best in your opinion? Those with creative themes, it can either be tactical or positional but it has to be interesting. Those that have a lot of subtle finesse, preferably one that have many games concluded by a long endgame struggle. Those that are won with engine preparation, it is amazing how much a player can memorize and play like an engine. Those with a lot of back and forth, this is how you know that a world championship match is close. Those that are drawn in most games but have 1-3 decisive games, this means that the games are close and the decisive ones will be interesting. Those with sacrifices, it is always entertaining to see a world champion that takes a lot of risks.
